What made you decide to start this business with Aisha?
Well, Aisha and I actually met in college. We both went to Wesleyan and she was my “big sister” so we got to know each other pretty well and kept in touch after we graduated. One day I get a call and Aisha started to tell me about this idea she had for an equipment rental company. I listened to her pitch and I knew that it was a great business idea. So, I decided to help her bring her idea to life.
What is the Freedom Fitness Movement?
The principle behind Endless Home Fitness (EHF) is that it gives people the freedom to exercise whenever and however they want. Instead of having to waste time on a commute to the gym or buying expensive equipment that they only use once, EHF allows them to take control of their fitness routine in a way that fits their lifestyle. Each of the packages is tailored so that every member is able to take a holistic approach to their fitness routine. This way, they aren’t just getting cardio machines, they also have weights, and options for aerobic equipment so everything is balanced.
Why does fitness matter in today’s society?
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of people, including myself, got sick. One of the things that actually helped me get better was walking. And I started walking more frequently and changing my diet. In today’s society, no matter how you do it, fitness is a universal way of improving your overall health, and it matters because when we’re healthier we tend to make better decisions and we have an improved quality of life in general. What people tend to misunderstand about fitness is that it’s not just exercise, it’s also about mental discipline. Making the decision to be healthier starts with an intention and then following through in an effective way to meet your goals. Our goal at EHF is to help people prioritize their fitness and support them on their well-being journey.
What do you love about the work you do?
What I love about the work I do is changing the perception people have about being healthy. A lot of the messages we have around being healthy, exercising, and just weight, in general, are fairly negative. It makes people feel that they have to look a certain way or sets unrealistic expectations about our bodies. What I’ve learned and what I hope is that our marketing supports that fitness isn’t one size fits all. It’s what you make it. In my own fitness journey, I had to learn what worked for me and what made me enjoy exercise. I learned to be comfortable in my body and discover what I was capable of; I was finally taking my health into my own hands. And once I let go of what my body was “supposed” to be or look like, the possibilities were endless.
How do you exercise now?
Now, I still walk and I’ve gotten into pole fitness.
